Project Lead The Way: Design and Modeling

Design and Modeling provides students with hands-on opportunities to creatively solve problems by applying the design process. Students are introduced to a problem in each unit and are asked to make connections to the problem throughout the lessons within the unit. Students learn and utilize methods for communicating design ideas through sketches, solid models, and mathematical models. Students gain an understanding of how models can be simulated to represent an authentic situation in the healthcare field. Students work in teams to identify design requirements, research the topic, and engage stakeholders. Throughout this class students will design a foot orthosis for a patient with cerebral palsy, a therapeutic toy for a child with individualized needs, and a puzzle cube for a patient suffering from memory loss. Students will fabricate each model and test it, and make any necessary modifications to optimize the design solution.

Science: Edible Cell Projects

While learning about the most basic unit of life, students were asked to create a model of an animal or plant cell made entirely out of edible materials. Students also briefly described the function and importance of each organelle inside of their cell. These were some of the awesome projects they came up with!
